Student Activities

Each year, the Houston chapter sponsors several academic scholarships, separately from those awarded by the Society.

General:
Scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession.  Additional criteria for each chapter scholarship is listed below. Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and meet at least one of the following criteria.   

• The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch ASHRAE Student Branches or
• The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) www.abet.org

The following scholarships will be awarded in 2026:

ASHRAE Houston Chapter Damon Gowan - $1500 Available annually to undergraduate engineering, preferably but not limited to mechanical and architectural engineering and is to be selected each year by the Donor. The scholarship is open to graduating High School Seniors interested in pursuing a degree in the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry at the discretion of the ASHRAE Houston Chapter.

ASHRAE Houston Chapter Richard Burr - $1500 Available annually to undergraduate engineering, preferably but not limited to mechanical and architectural engineering and is to be selected each year by the Donor. The scholarship is open to graduating High School Seniors interested in pursuing a degree in the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry at the discretion of the ASHRAE Houston Chapter.

The following society/national level scholarship is also awarded annually.  Deadlines to apply for society level scholarships are every December 1st.  Please see the  ASHRAE Society Scholarship Program link below for additional information.

ASHRAE Houston Chapter R.O. Hunton Scholarship - $3,000
Available to a qualified undergraduate mechanical engineering student enrolled full-time at a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Houston Chapter.
